Pathways

For a number of years now, I have been choosing a single word to guide my coming year.  It’s a word I refer back to over the course of the following twelve months if I’m stuck, or feel I need to get back on course.

For 2022, my word is Pathways.

This year, I am going to focus on:

Pathways in to the things I want for myself, my family, and my communities.

Pathways out of areas, issues, and events that are harmful, unhealthy, or unhelpful, to myself, my family, and my communities.

Pathways to the things I’ve dreamed of for the benefit of myself, my family, and my communities.

Pathways away from the nightmares that have troubled me, my family, and my communities.

Pathways to endings that are necessary for me, my family, and my communities.

Pathways to beginnings that are exciting and joyful for me, my family, and my communities.

It is my intention that these pathways will be littered with the flowers of kindness, strewn with the buds of gentleness, festooned with the blooms of love. And desire! I love desire paths. I love the defiance of them – the way that a path does not exist until people – by treading the way – demonstrate their preferred way to get to where they’re going. They remind me that experts don’t always know what’s best for us; that we can stray from the ‘prescribed’, or the ‘accepted’ way, follow our hearts’ desires, and end up where we’re supposed to be in a way that feel right for us.

Do you have a word for 2022? If so, what is it?
