I offer sex education for teenagers that moves beyond what is offered on the RSE curriculum. I address the issues of abuse, and – knowing that children and teenagers are more likely to disclose to a peer – offer participants information on how to deal with disclosure. Aware that teachers aren’t empowered to know how to deal with disclosure, either, I offer training to adults in the schools, clubs, and associations where I provide education to teenagers.
This training covers:
- Consent – looking beyond the ‘buzz’ and unpacking what consent really is. This includes a look at Betty Martin’s ‘Wheel of Consent’
- Discussion of friendships and romantic relationships
Power and control within relationships - Gender stereotypes
- Conception – how it happens, and how it doesn’t
- Contraception
- Pornography
- The importance of pleasure
Healthy sex – emotionally and physically - Exploring sexuality – asking for what you need, what you want, and meeting your partner’s needs and wants (including whether or not you are obliged to)
- Sexual assault, rape, and seeking help if you are a victim
